Seawater Outfalls and Intakes are required for many different industries. Power Stations and other industrial plants require intakes and outfalls for dealing with cooling water and Water Companies are charged with disposing of surface water run-off and the by-products of sewage treatment.
GSS Plant has installed Sea Water Outfalls and intakes at various locations throughout the UK. The accumulated experience from these various projects has developed skills within our workforce in this area.
Our Workboats all carry DGPS to facilitate accurate positioning of the vessels. To maintain this accurate position several of our Workboats deploy a four point mooring system that allows incremental movement controlled from the bridge and measured by the DGPS instrument.
Typically the outfall pipe is pulled out from the shore along the required line. The pipe will then be sunk into the required position which is then checked for accuracy by divers. The divers then make good any subsea connections to the landward end and to the diffusers.
Various methods of covering the pipe line have been employed, from trenching, stone or concrete surround or concrete mats. All of these methods have been implemented by GSS.
Divers are deployed from facilities on deck of the workboat and support workboats and day boats are on hand to assist when required. For deeper pipelines a Decompression Chamber can be located on the deck of the workboat.
